Summer CSA Week 14 and some INCREDIBLE football!

This marks week number 14 of our Summer CSA program and this week I absolutely LOVED the grapes —- again, and am anxious to use this Ohio City Pasta with the sauce that I just made!

Summer CSA – Week 14

Week 14 Summer CSA Package

This week is another colorful and heavy bag.  Our backs are still hurting from the cantaloupes, corn, and squash last week!  This week the watermelons are sure to give us a workout.

This week’s centerpiece is a large watermelon from the muck soils of Hartville.  Kay (Pappy to some of you) grows the absolute best watermelons. They are generally huge but still full of flavor.  Be prepared to share with neighbors and co-workers.  Most will have seeds (those are the most flavorful), but they are all planted together and we can’t really tell which are which until you cut into them!

In addition to watermelons, we’ll have a colorful assortment of eggplant, carrots, grape tomatoes, beans (mostly a flat variety called Dragontongue), and onions.  Each bag will also get a pound of Ohio City Pasta roasted red pepper linguini.

Last week you may have noticed the surprise concord grapes. With the rain early last week, they came on in a hurry so we had to take them early.  This week’s rain is bringing them on strong again, although we hope they don’t burst from too much rain!  Each bag will receive either concords or personal size (softball size) cantaloupes…but maybe both.   The farmers haven’t picked them yet so they don’t know how many they’ll get.

Wednesday group.  This week you will get the spaghetti squash from last week.  Kay couldn’t get it all harvested in time for Wednesday so we didn’t get our first shipment of it until Thursday morning.  We are getting more today for you guys tomorrow.

Also, remember the Golden Delicious Apple tree that I blogged about in our front yard a while back?  Well, the apples are ready!  The kids and I made some fantastic applesauce!  Emily picked all the apples while Jeremy was at a birthday party…

Emily “working hard” in our front yard

Almost full Emily — work harder! lol

She had so much fun picking these while I mowed the lawn :).  Afterwards, we picked Jeremy up from his party and when we got home – they got to work!

NO EMILY!!! You CANNOT peel them with your teeth!

We ended up making a CRAZY amount of applesauce!  Our only ingredients were apples, cinnamon and a little bit of pure maples syrup — just to make it a little sweeter (for some reason just didn’t seem sweet enough).

You could only imagine how good our house smelled….

Today also marked game #1 for Jeremy and Emily.  I have to tell you    IT.WAS.AWESOME.

Man! Those are some good looking ball players!

I don’t know what happened to the videos I took of Jeremy’s game, but I’m glad this video remained of Emily’s.  She makes knocking those boys on their asses look easy!  This is how it went all day for her in her 27 to zero victory of Fairport Raiders!

How could she be so sweet at home and so serious on the football field??

Jeremy’s team also had an incredible victory over Mayfield Green Cats.  Their game was a nail biter – right down to the end.

12 to 7 victory!

This was at half-time while he still had his “game face” on.  Again, I don’t know what happened to the video I took of his game and feel bad about it, but it went something like this….

Jeremy is number two in this video.  Accessing the situation and acting!

Both Jeremy and Emily played their hearts out today.  Love these kids so much.  So proud of them!
I got in a little bit of running — nothing really to mention tho… give me a week — I’ll have more to blog about then.  I’ve recently added a dualthlon next week along with my normal training for my big upcoming races.. just for fun 🙂
